Seasonal Faves: Summer '16

Hey, everyone. I hope you're doing well. I'm so glad tomorrow marks the first day of fall. Bring on the 40℉ - 50℉ weather, please! School is going fine, even though both my college life and work life have basically exploded. I'm doing what I can with what I was given this semester which is all we can do in life.
Anyways, I'm getting all "therapist" on you and we can save that side of me for October (Mental Health Awareness Month). Since Summer officially ends tomorrow, I thought I'd squeeze in my Summer Faves before it's too late. I'm essentially just taking my top faves from the past three months and elaborating on why I like them so much. Enjoy!

Actress:
Firstly, she is absolutely gorgeous, even as the Red Priestess in GoT (who I love/hate). Secondly, she's an extremely talent actress winning Five Golden Calf awards for Best Actress in the Netherlands, which is the US equivalent to an Academy award. That alone tells you how immensely talented she is. She has also appeared in one of my fave films Undercover Kitty (Dutch: Miss Minoes). It's such a cute film and reminds me of the web-series of Alice that my bae Caterina Scorsone was in...but that's another story. Finally, Carice is also a singer, dropping a rock-pop album in 2012 called See You On The Ice. The song I'm a particular fan of is I'm Here which makes me think of someone who recently(ish) walked out of my life...(For those who've read my blog for a while, you know who I'm talking about).

I finally started dance classes again and I'm really happy about that. And of course, when you start dancing, you need new leotards. So I finally bought a leotard + matching skirt that I had my eye on for quite a while. I absolutely love it because it looks amazing on me (or so I was told) and it's definitely different from my ususal black leos with pink accents. I definitely plan on purchasing the leggings that match the leo sometime soon.
Unfortunately, the leo I have has been discontinued but they are some that are very similar.

The leotard with the blue bottom (right) is the one I
own and the other leo with the mesh selves (middle) is
one of my dance friends'. On the left is the matching skirt.
Beauty:
Nature's Bounty Vitamins for Women
I've been looking for an all natural womens' vitamin to take and I have just found my holy grail one. Nature's Bounty gummies taste like raspberries, plus it doesn't have sucrose in it (something that the Vitafusion gummies I was using had). These specific gummies are also made in a factory where there is "No Milk, No Lactose, No Soy, No Gluten, No Wheat, No Yeast, No Fish." It also has No Artificial Color, Artificial Flavor or Artificial Sweetener, No Preservatives, No Starch, Sodium Free. All things I look for in a vitamin. CVS also had a buy one get one free deal so head over there to see if it's still around.
Been through three bottles of these so far.
Books:
A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan M.D.
This book goes perfectly with the Depression Management class I'm taking this summer. Its sole focus is a holistic approach to depression through nutrition and exercise Kelly has put in amazing personal insights into this book and I would recommend it to anyone who's into psychology or has depression.

Photo from a road trip my friends and I went on.
Drink:
Synergy Kombucha
Definitely late on the whole Kombucha bandwagon, but still enjoying it nonetheless. Due to all my stomach issues I can only have 2oz a day, ususally first thing in the morning. It definitely wakes you up. And has so many benefits for you, especially if you're a vegetarian like I am. So far, my favorite one is the Guava Goddess but the Trilogy one is really great too, even more so when I have GP flare ups.

Help me choose! I can't decide which one I like better:
Guava Goddess or Cosmic Cranberry?
Food:
Spinach and Garlic Crepes
My mummy made this on a whim one day for herself and I ended up stealing it from her because I liked it so much. I remember eating this for breakfast lunch and dinner one day. All you have to do is make a crepe, wilt spinach with minced garlic. Spread tomato basil pesto on the crepe, add the spinach, roll and eat. Delish!
(tip: I pre-make the crepes and freeze them. In the freezer, they last for about a week. They could last longer, but I end up finishing all of them within a week which is why I said it has a week long shelf life).

These are literally the best thing to ever exist.
Hair:
My hair has always responded well to Argan Oil. I got three samples from different companies when I was an Ipsy Subscriber and I finally found the same one (just different packaging) at CVS! My hair looks shiny healthy and split-end free (even though I recently got a massive haircut). I put it on after a shower from the ends to just under my ears. It's an amazing product, even though it's pricey, and it smells so good.

I definitely want to try the shampoo/conditioner
system by this brand sometime in the future.
Makeup:
M.A.C. Lipliner in Soar
You know those lazy days where you don't want to wear as much makeup as normal or whatnot. On those days I just go for a natural lip liner and some lip balm. This liner has been talked about by so many beauty YouTubers, specifically Ava Allan. I absolutely adore it, when I finally bought it. A little bit of Fresh Petal lipstick on top looks great too. It's a perfect neutral lip for summer.

Summer is the perfect time for
hot selfies. (Photo from June).
TV Show:
You all know me, the GoT freak (I have a Mother of Dragons decal on my laptop and I have a whole wall in my room dedicated to GoT. It's no surprise that it's one of the best shows in the world, because...well it is. It has a great storyline, an amazing cast and crew and Istenem*, I just love it. I have some friends who call me Khaleesi while others call me Melisandrys Stark of Meereen because apparently, I'm a cross between Melisandre, Daenerys, and Sansa. Sansa I can get, but the other two I'm not too sure about...
(Side note: A GoT period theory I heard is that women have periods as a sacrifice to the Gods so that we don't have to sacrifice a human like um...oh nevermind, you'll find out in S5 (if you haven't seen it already. If you have, please tell me I'm not the only one who screamed, threw something and sobbed during that scene).

I will take it!
Scent:
Hello Beautiful by Bath & Body Works
This is my classic go to for the summer (over Thai Lily...huge shocker I know). It's got great floral top notes of Sun-drenched Pomelo, Fuzzy White Nectarine, Italian Mandarin; mid notes of Night-blooming Jasmine, White Gardenia, Pink Peonies and dry notes of White Amber, Driftwood, Cotton Musk. I have it in body mist, shower gel, and thick cream form. I know for a fact I will be getting mini versions of all three to keep in my backpack for school as well as for travel.
I also get a ton of compliments on this scent which just goes to show how amazing it is.

Couldn't buy just one.
Singer:
Samantha Barks
I've been a huge fan of Samantha since seeing her as Eponine in the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert during my Sophomore year of high school. She's mega talented for being someone as young as 26, having won third place in the BBC talent show I'd Do Anything at the age of 17 (she ended up playing Nancy from 2011-2013) to landing her film debut as Eponine in the film adaptation of Les Miserables. She has done numerous films since then, my fave being The Christmas Candle. She also recently released a debut album which unfortunately isn't available in the US but I've been listening to it on Spotify non-stop. She's got a beautiful voice and well..you'll just have to listen to the album to know what I mean. Here's a link to the full album on YouTube.

Her voice is just too amazing. Especially,
as Eponine in Les Miserables.
Skincare:
Velvet Organics
I disovered this brand towards the end of summer and I'm so glad I did. They have three amazing masks and are very reasonably priced for how innovative the company is. I am working on a future post with them so I'm not gonna give too much away. All I can say is the mask are great for girls on the go! Check out the post I did with them here.

Song:
This House Is Empty Now by Samantha Barks (Elvis Costello cover).
As some of you may or may not know, for about ten days in July I was dealing with severe depression due medication changes and withdrawals. It was an awful experience and now that I am back to my normal self I can utilize those feelings to create a dance to this song. I especially love the verses, "These rooms play tricks upon you/Remember when they were always filled with laughter?/ But now they're quite deserted/They seem to just echo voices raised in anger.../But now I fill my life up/With all that I can to deaden this sensation/Do you recognize the face/Fixed in that fine silver frame/Were you really so unhappy there/You never said/So this house is empty now/There's nothing I can do to make you want to stay/So tell me how am I supposed to live without you.../Oh, if I could just become forgetful/When night seems endless/Does the extinguished candle care/About the darkness?" because they explain how horrid mid-July was for me. Other than that, I love it because well, it's Samantha Barks singing and she's been my fave since...well...forever.

Will you recognize my
face, fixed in that fine
silver frame?

So that sums up all of my summer favorites. As always if you liked this post give it a +1 on Google+, follow me on all my social media sites which will be linked below and leave me a comment below what your summer faves are. I hope you all have a lovely rest of September.
