Seasonal Faves: Winter '17

Hey everyone. Can you believe that this month is almost over? It's absolutely mind blowing. What is even more mind blowing to me is that this semester is only from Jan 9th - May 5th. I've never gotten out of school that early before!
Anyways, today's post is my seasonal winter favorites. And as always, I include links to songs, where to buy the products I talk about, films on YT and all that jazz for you to check out (gotta love those Broadway puns).

Actress:
Lara Pulver
In January, the fifth Underworld film finally came out. I've been waiting since 2012 for the next installment of this series to come out and I was not disappointed in the slightest. It was a fantastic film and I highly recommend it.
One of the new characters in the series, Semira really stood out to me. She actress, Lara Pulver, who portrays Semira played this character so well, she scared me as much as Tilda Swilton does in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I was absolutely captivated by this actress, so naturally, I decided to find out more about her and the more I learned the more I fell in love with her. She is immensely talented and has been in big name shows like Robin Hood (S3 - 8 episodes), Skins (V7 - 2 episodes), True Blood (S3, S4, S5 - 6 episodes), Sherlock (S2 - 2 episodes). She has also been in musical theatre shows on the West End such as Parade, Gypsy, The Last Five Years, just to name a few. She is immensely talented and I love following her on Twitter.

I'm not sure if it's obvious yet but I have a thing
for people with dark hair and blue eyes...

Beauty:
Skinn Sugar Lips Scrub
I'm a lover of matte lipstick but the problem is that it's so drying on your lips which drives me nuts. And because it's winter, my lips get so dry even when I use lipbalm. This lip scrub is the best thing to ever exist. It's a thick sugar scrub that exfoliates and moisturizes at the same time. I have a deluxe sample from Ipsy and it has lasted me for ages. I probably will still have this product by this time next year, that's how big the sample I got was (20ml or 0.7oz). I cannot stress enough how much I love this scrub.
This lip scrub is the bomb.com!

Book:
Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig
I'd heard people absolutely rave about this book and I of course had to check it out. It's about his story with depression and how to overcome it. It has helped me immensely with understanding my own depression, if that makes sense. His book is what I go to when I can't find the right words to explain my feelings. I've included my favorite passage from the book under the image below.

"Depression is also...smaller than you. Always, it is
smaller than you, even when it feels vast. It
operates within you, you do not operate within it.
It may be a dark cloud passing across the sky - but
if that is the metaphor - you are the sky. You were
there before it. And the cloud can't exist without
the sky, but the sky can exist without the cloud."
Drink:
Bigelow French Vanilla Tea
I’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately. My roommate loves Bigelow French Vanilla tea and she got me absolutely hooked on it. I love it so much. It reminds me of the Vanilla tea I get from our local tea house but it's way cheaper. It's sometimes hard to find in stores so I order mine from Amazon most of the time.
I drink this tea almost every night.
Food:
Apples
Every morning during breakfast I take two apples with me to my dorm. And my school has the best apples. The soft and sweet juicy ones that seem to melt in your mouth. I'm not entirely sure if they are McIntosh or Red Delicious apples but either way, the are delicious. But, alas, I am highly sensitive to fructose and apples are full of fructose. I've gotten massive stomachaches from eating apples. I did find a way around it though. I just peel off the skin first and then I am good to go!

Best apples ever!
Hair:
Remington New Diamond Shine Ceramic Flat Iron
I know that this doesn't really count as a hair product like I usually write about but I wanted to include this anyway. I've been wanting a flat iron for quite a few years now and never seem to remember to buy one, but I finally did and I love it. For only $19.49, it is by far an amazing flat iron. It straightens my hair perfectly with only one swipe and it takes me only 5 - 10 minutes to straighten my hair. I don't do it often because my hair is layered and it looks odd that way. But this flat iron does a good job of giving me soft beachy waves which I love.

Such an amazing flat iron. It only takes 30
seconds to heat up and 60 seconds to cool down.
Makeup:
Pro-Glow Foundation by L'Oreal in 203 Nude Beige.
I've been on the search for ages for a drugstore foundation that I like and I finally found one that doesn't cake up or flake off. It was recommended by Kathryn Morgan in one of her makeup tutorials and I couldn't be happier with this foundation. It makes my skin glow from within and I love it. Because it is a dewy foundation, you may need to use some translucent powder on your T-zone so your skin doesn't look oily. I use Ulta Mineral Powder Foundation in Fair 03N.

Movie:
Pollyanna (2003).
Surprise, I am not going to rave about the new movie in the Underworld Franchise. While Underworld: Blood Wars was a fantastic movie, it was more action and less storyline, unlike the previous four films. Because of that, it does not make my seasonal favorites (even though I do recommend the movie).
Today, I wanted to talk about my childhood favorite movie, Pollyanna. This particular version is absolutely amazing. Georgina Terry, who plays Pollyanna does a brilliant job of being the happy-go-lucky ball of happiness that she is. She also does a beautiful job of trying to stay glad, even after her accident with a motorcar that leaves her paralyzed from the waist down. There are also some beautiful quotes in the movie. I won't give you any more spoilers but I highly recommend you watch it. It's $2.99 to rent on iTunes.

Georgina Terry is the perfect Pollyanna.

Scent:
Sweet and Flirty from Victoria's Secret
Lately, I've been looking for a new signature body mist that's in my price range and I finally found one. The website describes this scent as a, "flirty mix of sugar berry and pink grapefruit" and I couldn't agree more. It's such a lovely scent and I'm completely obsessed with it...almost as much as I was with Wrapped in Comfort from Bath and Body Works (2015 limited edition) as well as Thai Lily from Illume.

Amazing fragrance all the way around.
Singer:
Lara Pulver
It should come as no surprise when my favorite actress also happens to be a singer. She has done many productions in the West End such as Gypsy in which she won the 2016 Oliver Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. My favorite song of hers has to be a cover of Buenos Aires from Evita at the St. George's Day Performance in 2011 in Trafalgar Square, London. She is an absolutely brilliant singer and I really hope that one day she releases and EP album and goes on tour. I would hands down go see her in concert.

She's such a beautiful singer. Her singing style
reminds me Rachel Tucker and Emmy Rossum.
Skincare:
Say Yes to Cucumbers Gentle Milk Cleanser
Due to the fact that I am at a University now, saving money has never been more imperative for me. And because of that I am starting to use more drugstore products over high end products like I used to use. I've been looking for a gentle cleanser similar to the Cetaphil Face Cleanser but in a smaller bottle. This face wash is a very good version of the Cetaphil Face Cleanser and it does a lovely job of keeping my skin moisturized and healthy looking. I also use the makeup wipes from the same line and it is also an amazing product. Best makeup wipes I've ever used.

Fantastic for sensitive skin!
Song:
Hurt by Christina Aguilera
Lately, I've been looking for a song to do a dance to that expresses my feelings over having depression and how much it's hurt me as well as people who I know love me, specifically my parents. After ages of searching, I finally found the song and I did a dance to it back in January. Enjoy!

I'm sorry for blaming you, for everything I just
couldn't do. And I've hurt myself by hurting you.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. As always please give this post a +1 on Google+, follow me on all my social media sites and leave me a comment below telling me what you've been loving this winter are. See you next week.
