Dancing Through Life's Lessons: Carpe Diem!

     Happy 1st day of March everyone. I hope you all are having a lovely time. I am still loving my life at FPU. It's midterm week but luckily I only have one...maybe to midterms. I know I definitely have one midterm. After that it's Spring Break and then only 7 weeks left of school (the 8th week being Finals). It's crazy how very short this semester is. Like I'm used to not getting out of school till Mid-May not the first week of May. My brother will still have an entire month of school left once I get out...but luckily I'll have a job to keep me busy. 
     Lately, I feel like everyone is always caught up in their phones or in their personal life. They are just existing rather than living (I know some of you know what I mean by that. If you don't then read this blog post). And I think we all need to learn how to enjoy life more than we do. That is why, today's post is about fifteen ways you can sieze the day. 1. Smile

Go to the mirror and smile at yourself the moment you get out of bed. Say five things you like about yourself while you’re there. (choose a different five each day).

2. Lighten the Load
“The day she let go of the things that were weighing her down was the day she began to shine the brightest.” ~ Katrina Mayer
Slowly start to remove the heavier items from your life. Cut out toxic friends. Eat healthier. Exercise more often. Keep your backpack or purse light. 

3. Accept yourself
 “Take a day to heal from the lies you’ve told yourself and the ones that have been told to you.” ~ Maya Angelou  
Take a selfie, caption the new and improve perspective you have of yourself and post it on social media. 

This is me! I'm impatient and a little insecure.
I make mistakes, I'm out of control and sometimes,
I'm hard to handle. That is because I'm human!
If you can't handle me at my worst, 
then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. 

4. Notice and Take Note

Next time you’re at your favorite restaurant or cafe, try something entirely new on the menu. While you’re there, make a list of five things that you liked about the new purchase. You could also do a variation of this by taking a new route to school, work etc and write five things you liked about that new scenery. 

5. Morning Mantras
 “Every day tell yourself, ‘I am an adventurer.  I am passionate.  I am determined.” ~ Roz Savage
Find an encouraging quote and read it aloud every morning for the next week.

6. Twitterverse
 “Do one thing every day that scares you.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Send a tweet to a woman entrepreneur and tell her how amazing she is.
You could also tweet a new inspirational quote every day.

7. Capture Goals 
“These days, I’ve been trying to classify my thoughts into two categories: ‘Things I can change,’ and ‘Things I can’t.’  It seems to help me sort through what to really stress about.” ~ Taylor Swift 
Take a photo of something you want to change (i.e. higher arabesque) and then continuously take pictures to record your progress.

8.  Laugh
“Always find a reason to laugh.  It may not add years to your life, but will surely add life to your years.” ~ Author Unknown  
At least once a week do something that makes you laugh from watching a comedy movie, to hanging out with a friend who knows how to make you smile or laugh.

9. Your words reflect your mind 
“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it.” ~ Edith Wharton  
Always think twice before you speak (that includes posts on social media). If you’re always complaining and cursing like a sailor, people may get the impression that you’re ungrateful and uneducated. Speak clean and people will be drawn to you.

10. Weekend Zen 
“Weekends are special even if your schedule is all over the place.  Something tells you the weekend has arrived and you can indulge yourself a bit.” ~ Helen Mirren
Do one thing relaxing every weekend from a facial, to taking a yoga class to even just sleeping in.

11. Daydream Drawings
 “Don’t quit your daydream. Don’t forget to breathe. Who you want to be is only up to you.” ~ Tori Kelly
Next time you find yourself daydreaming, put it to paper either in the form of a drawing or a short story.

12. Positive Prescription
“Simple changes can have profound results.” ~ Author Unknown
Find a profound quote you love and make a simple image using typewriter font. Post it on social media and let it uplift you every day.
(I have a whole album on my phone of inspirational quotes that I mediate on daily).

13. Dear Future Self…
“I am going to be strong today. I tried it yesterday and I think I am hooked.” ~ Neila Rey
Write a letter to your future self which lists your personal and professional goals, along with a few ideas on how to get there.

14. Meditate 
“Today, take a break from your ego and don’t take yourself too seriously.” ~ Sonia Choquette 
Lay down in silence for five - ten minutes. Tune out anything stressing you out and meditate on the good things in your life. The app Happify has awesome meditations you can listen to.

15. Risky Business
 “I think we’re all blessed with gifts and I was lucky I just found out what mine was early on and have planted that seed and tried to water it every day.” ~ Katy Perry  
Next time you’re at school or work, volunteer for an assignment you’re not fully ready to do.
