Spotlight On: Leslie Monaco

Hey everyone. I hope you all are doing well. Finals are looming in the not so distant future (even though all my finals are just unit tests) I am still stressed out to the max. So much work to do and no enough time to do it. I just really hope that I don't have a mental breakdown between now and then (even though, knowing me, that seems very likely).
Anyways, it seemed about time for me to do another interview with a dancer. Today, I introduce to you Leslie Monaco. Leslie is one of my newest dance friends and she is beyond talented so I am very happy to have conducted an interview with her. So let's get right into it!

FM: What styles of dance do you do?
LM: I have done all styles of dance (except for ballroom), by right now I'm only focusing on ballet at Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet because I'm rehearsing for a musical on the days that I'm not in class, and my rehearsal schedule is very busy!

FM: How long have you been dancing?
LM: I have been dancing for 12 years.

FM: What got you into dancing?
LM: My mom was a dancer for 10 years when she was little, and my neighbor owns a dance studio so when they moved into the neighborhood, they asked if I wanted to dance there and I guess the rest is history.

FM: How many hours/days do you dance per week?
LM: I dance 5 days a week, 9 hours a week. Ballet class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Rehearsal on Tuesday and Thursday.

FM: What brand/style pointe shoes do you wear?
LM: I wear Grishko 2007 pointe shoes.

FM: Top 3 favourite ballerinas/male dancers?
LM: Gisele Bethea, Anna Sharova, Misty Copeland.

FM: Hobbies outside of ballet?
LM: Reading, listening to music, organizing.

FM: Favourite ballets?
LM: Don Quixote and The Nutcracker.

FM: Are you better at turns or leaps?
LM: Leaps.

FM: Variations you've already danced?
LM: I've never done a variation, but I've done the "Dove Solo" in Children of Eden at Wolf Performing Arts Center.

FM: Role model in the dance world?
LM: Jaycee Wilkins and Misty Copeland.

FM: Best advice to a new dancer?
LM: Find a group of people you can trust that you can talk to when you feel like giving up. I can't tell you how helpful it is to talk to someone about how you're feeling.

FM: What are some of your dance goals?
LM: My dance goals are to get my front aerial, to move to a higher level at my ballet studio, and to dance in my studio's Nutcracker next year.

FM: How old are you?
LM: I am 17 years old.

FM: What is your favourite color?
LM: My favorite color is pink.

FM: What is your favorite song?
LM: My favorite song is Claire de Lune by Claude Debussy.

FM: What was the last song you listened to?
LM: The last song I listened to was Love Me Now by John Legend.
